Types of Hair Problems(baldness)
There are two basic types of hair Fall out. In order to better understand hair loss information, please note that this one more area where men and women have differences. There is male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.
Female pattern baldness is usually first noted by a larger number of hairs you find in your brush or on your pillow. Everyone loses some hair; it is when it becomes notable or bothersome that you should consult your physician. Female hair loss occurs all over the head and may not be noted until some loss has occurred.
Male pattern baldness is noted by hairlines that begin to recede or a spot in the top back part of the head that begins to thin out as well. Men too will note more hair on their combs or brushes. They may note single strands on their clothes or pillow as well.
The good news is that in most cases hair loss may be able to be prevented. Hair loss can be stopped and further loss prevented. In other cases hair loss may be reversible.
Causes of Hair Problems
Hormone changes such as those that occur in women who use birth control, are pregnant, or have gone through child birth. Women who are menopausal may also experience hair loss. In men, high amounts of testosterone and DHT-dihydrotestosterone have been linked to hair reduction.
Physical stress such illness, high fevers, or Tinea Capitis (ring worm on the scalp) will cause hair to weaken and fall out. Emotional stress including nervous habits such as pulling out hair and rubbing your scalp too frequently can cause hair problems too.
Too frequent hair washing and blow drying can adversely affect the protein in the hair and stop the growth process. It shrinks the hair follicles, pushing the hairs up and out.
Brushing or combing through it roughly can also pull out hairs or break them off.
Possible Treatment Options
There are oral medications that are available. They should be taken exactly as you are instructed. Too much of the medications may cause hair loss among other problems. They do come with side effects. For some men these effects are sexual and may include erection problems and a low libido.
There are topical treatments that are applied right on the scalp. These treatments, in some individuals, may cause skin irritation, and infection. Once the problem is resolved, hair re-growth may occur.
Natural products including natural supplements are becoming a popular choice. This is especially true for those desiring to avoid the side effects of other treatments. These supplements may include vitamins including A and C. They may also contain minerals such as zinc or magnesium. Herbal extracts such as Nettle Root and Horse tail may also be in these natural supplements.
