Hair Loss - Causes and Symptoms

Hair Loss and balding occurs to about 30% of people starting from 30 years old to close to 60% of the people by the time they reach 50 years old. The condition can affect all races and to both male and female. There is a wide ranging cause for Hair Loss. The more common ones are as follows:

1 One of the most common causes of Hair Loss is stressed related. Usually one would experience Hair Loss after going through an event that causes excessive emotional and/or physical stress. Like a change of job, environment or pregnancy.

2 Having a poor diet that is lacking in iron and protein could also cause Hair Loss. In such an instance, the body system is not able to sustain the blood flow to nourish the hair thereby leading to Hair Loss.

3 Hair Loss can also be hereditary.

4 Consumption of medications or going through medical treatment is the other common cause of Hair Loss.

5 Artificial chemical treatment done on the hair can also be the cause for Hair Loss. Hair styling procedures such as Rebonding, coloring and perming will lead to weakening of the hair shafts and damage to the Hair Shafts which will in turn cause Hair Loss.

What are the Symptoms and Stages of Hair Loss?

The signs of Hair Loss can occur starting from the falling of hairline. Normally everyone losses 30 to 60 strands of hairs everyday, however if you begin to notice that there is excessive falling of Hair on your clothes or when it starts to drop off while you are combing, it may be the start of Hair Loss.

This could well be followed by the thinning of hair. You will be able to differentiate whether you are seeing more of your scalp when looking into the mirror as before. This is usually the second stage of Hair Lose.

This is followed by the shortening of Hair, usually in the front portion of your head. At this stage the Hair starts to break off and the balding part becomes shorter than the rest of the head. Subsequently receding Hairline may occurs and starts at both end of your forehead slowly inwards to the center of your Head. By this time, the top view of your head will look like a U shape before the "island" is formed. It may then spread to the rest of the unaffected areas subsequently. In some other cases, clumps of Hair may drop off, resulting in visible patches.

While in many cases, especially if it is stressed related, Hair Loss may be temporary, other times it may be irreversible. Knowing the causes, the symptoms and stages of Hair Loss will provide one with options to deal with Hair Loss.
